An interesting press release claims that the Romans invented Jesus Christ in order to pacify war-crazy Jews in Palestine.
“Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to ‘give onto Caesar’ and pay their taxes to Rome.”
Clever Romans. Perfectly plausible. Every religion is about behaviour modification.
American Biblical scholar Joseph Atwill says he has posits his theory based on comparing the New Testament to Wars of the Jews, which is “the only surviving first-person historical account of first-century Judea.”
Atwill says his “discovery” is important because, “Although Christianity can be a comfort to some, it can also be very damaging and repressive, an insidious form of mind control that has led to blind acceptance of serfdom, poverty, and war throughout history. ”
No argument from me but… it ain’t gonna work.
Here’s why: even if Jesus came back and told everyone he never existed, Christians would still believe in him.
